Meet Georgina, 2016 Graduate

Corporate & Institutional Banking

What attracted you to this program?
The learning and development opportunities provided in an area that I was interested. I studied Economics and Finance at University, and the Corporate & Institutional Bank allows me to use (and expand on) this knowledge on a daily basis. The experience has allowed me to explore my career goals, and has helped me develop the skills necessary to reach those goals.

Why would you recommend this graduate program?
If you’re interested in Finance, either from an analysis or sales perspective, then the CIB program is a great place to start your career. CIB is the client facing side of the Institutional Bank, so you are able to work in both industry and product teams to help meet the needs of our customers. Industry teams will help you develop specific market expertise, and product teams will help you refine and expand your financial knowledge. Overall, you’ll gain a deep understanding of how the bank functions to meet the needs of its customers. As a graduate, you are able to rotate through a mix of these teams to find out which one you are best suited to.

What does a typical day as a CIB graduate involve?
This really depends on your team, but it can be anything from working with the Head of an Industry on their sector strategy, to assisting one of the Relationship Managers and product teams with a Live Deal, to analysing a company’s qualitative and quantitative metrics for the Credit Risk team.

What do you enjoy about working at Westpac Group?
I’ve been able to meet some amazing people who have mentored me and helped me throughout the program. The work life balance has been great, which means that I can maintain my fitness and overall wellbeing.
