Meet Anthony, 2016 Graduate
Why would you recommend this graduate program?
Group Operations is the engine room of the bank and no two days are the same. The opportunity to develop leadership skills and exercise these in a dynamic and challenging environment was a no brainer for me. The Group Operations Graduate Program is incredibly diverse in the opportunities that it presents to graduates. Throughout my first year, I have had first-hand operational training, worked on core business projects and been exposed to leadership opportunities. The amount of faith and trust that the business puts in Graduates ensures that you put your tertiary education into action from Day 1.
What rotations have you experienced?
My rotations have been varied and have exposed me to several areas of the bank. I began in an operational team, learning the business from the ground up. After a short amount of time I was seconded into a project, where I was able to contribute to the delivery of a real business and engage with stakeholders across the entire group. My second rotation built upon this knowledge by providing leadership opportunities and the chance to work with external business partners, outside of, Australia. My third rotation allowed me to build on this and sink my teeth into an operational management role and build on my critical thinking and leadership skills by taking ownership of my own project.
Why do you love coming into work each day?
The culture and work life balance. Westpac Group is incredibly supportive of its employees and the wider community. There is always something happening in each of our offices and employees are given the opportunity to pursue initiatives which they are passionate about. Beyond this, it is a very exciting time to be working at Westpac Group as the Service Revolution builds momentum into our 200 th year.
How have you developed across your graduate year?
The first week of the graduate program was both exciting and terrifying. Coming into a business the size of Westpac is definitely challenging and I was thrown out of my comfort zone. In the past year, I have grown in confidence and knowledge with each and every opportunity that I have been afforded (there have been many!). Westpac Group is still an incredibly large organisation and even a year in I’m still only scratching the surface – I can’t wait to see what’s next!
