Creating customer magic

We are a family of much loved brands: St.George, Bank SA and Bank of Melbourne and we are dedicated to helping family businesses to start, prosper, grow and contribute to their communities.

St.George was founded in the southern Sydney suburbs in 1937. Over the next 50 years, St.George built a reputation as Australia's foremost building society, before achieving full banking status in July 1992. In December 2008, St.George merged with Westpac Banking Corporation and the retail and business banking distribution businesses are now known as St.George Bank.

Meet Christos
St George Emerging Bankers - Business

Why would you recommend this graduate program?
The Westpac Group Graduate program is tailored to give you a well-rounded introduction into the corporate world. The rotations enable you to see so many different aspects of the business and advance your understanding of what opportunities are open to you within the wider business. The ability to meet with clients, analyse and understand their business, and watch them grow and evolve through financial assistance is incredibly fulfilling.

What does a typical day as a St George Emerging Banker grad involve?
As an analyst, days do tend to vary but can involve any or all of: Client meetings with prospective and existing connections, analysis of company financials, compiling company reports for submissions to credit for approval, meetings with credit and general research on companies and the industries they reside within.

Why do you love coming into work each day?
The two major reasons I love coming to work each day are the people I work with and the continual learning experienced within the program. The culture at St George is spoken about a lot and only when I started working within the business did I understand the impact a good working culture has on a healthy and productive working life.

How have you developed across your graduate year?
My Career Development has been phenomenal. Looking back to when I started working within the bank with little previous banking experience, and then comparing that base to where I am now, it is amazing to think only a year has passed. The investment in training, tutelage and support enables you to rapidly develop and blossom into your career at Westpac Group.
